For quite a while now we’ve been planning for a photo shoot. A picture to match the music and make the cover art for the album Explorers. But that photo shoot just seems a bit illusive. Not really wanting to happen. I’m not sure why. It’s just the non-flow sometimes. Suddenly the release date of Explorers were coming closer and closer and we still had no cover art.

When I sat down to paint a couple of evenings ago I just sat down to paint. I had no thought of the album whatsoever. I just blended white, greens and blue and smeared on. I like painting with my hands. Just mixing the colors and stroking the canvas and see what happens. All of a sudden there was the contours of a jellyfish. I’ve been thinking of painting a jellyfish for some time. I love how they move. Like a ballet of the ocean. The jellyfish represents our emotions and recommend to let go of them rather than to surpress them. Really pleased with the result I made a few marketing pictures for the coming album. When we looked at them Nikolaus said briefly that this picture would look good as the cover art and that perhaps this would suite the genre we’re growing into.

The other evening I sat down with a brush to lift out the jellyfish some more with different red shades. Red always seems too brave a color choice to try and blend into a painting, but it worked really well. I stared at that wonderful magic jellyfish and felt convinced this would be the cover art for Explorers. So different from what I originally imagined. I mean at first I was looking at steampunk outfits for Nikolaus and me. Thinking of discoverers like Andreé and Samuelsen, but with a twist.

Now I understand why that photo shoot hasn’t happened yet. It wasn’t supposed to make the album cover. Perhaps we still need some new pictures of us as a band though.
